In today's society I would think that this should be OK but I would call it an apartment warming rather than a house warming. This will shut up the old fashioned fudds before they get a chance to open their big mouths.

Yes, I believe so!
I had one when I moved into my first apartment...just because you didn't buy a house doesn't mean you can't celebrate! I called it an apartment warming and still had the same kind of celebration - appetizers and tons of drinks!

why not, be proud of gettin on your own. I wish i rented, hell with mortgage payments, youre smart to rent. Just call it a Party. Dont drink and drive though. :)
dont be envious of homeowners, most are miserable and broke. Invest your money while your renting. Have fun
