Recently we had to decide whether to buy a new product at the expense of some products which have overlapping functions. The new product offered better features and wider functions at a higher cost, and most customers like it. Because of that, we bought it. Some colleagues were not happy as they have less on their plate as a result. I think we made a good decision because it's based on what customer needs, rather than what the staff think. Sometimes we can easily put our own interests first.

I agree. I work in manufacturing and I hate seeing the way customers are treated. My employer believes that "Customers are our Priority" is a good slogan to put in our mission statement.
If they were honest they would say "Please the Stockholders, Screw the Customers"
I worked in retail before this job and I was trained in the old school. The one that said "The customer is always right." Helping customers, especially the disgruntled ones, was something I looked forward to.

It sounds like you weren't really clear on what the criteria you were evaluating this product on: if you wanted to improve the experience of your customers, then it's probably a good purchase - if you were buying a product to help your staff do their jobs (or boost their morale) then not such a great choice.
It's not about interests, it's about deciding why you need a new product in the first place - and that's not clear in your question.

If it makes the company work better and serves the needs of your customers then it is a good decision.

I mean if in the long run that´ll make you more profit
