Well, In my experience, they are looking for
food or water or warmth. Try finding
1. Where they are nesting
2. How they are entering your house
3. If there is any food source (Do you have pets?).
If you don't have pets, you can try some poison baits (available at the grocery store).
Try getting some of the plastic box traps that have
a one way door (available at Home Depot or Lowes). They are easy to set (no broken
fingers) and are effective at trapping....if you know
where to place the traps (put a little food inside and
place near an area where you have seen activity).
Place some poison baits in your attic/basement...and monitor to see whether they
are being eaten.
Get a pet snake or cat.
Where gloves when handling dead critters or
the poison baits and wash or dispose of them afterwards.
Don't let pets/children touch dead critters.
Repair any access holes (check dryer vent, Heat/AC lines into house, fireplace, attic vents). If so, get some of the spray expanding foam at the
hardware store.
Questions: Are they tree rats or Norwegian rats?
Do you live near a fast food / restaurant area?
Has there been any recent construction work
nearby? Are they just coming in this time of year
to get out of the cold?
Get rid of them. They can do damage to insulation
and wiring in the house.

Well first off you need to find out how they're getting in the house! A big rat can get through pretty small spaces. If you dont have small children around you could get some rat poison, the kind that dries them up so they dont smell so bad until you can find em. put it under the kitchen sink and places like that. Mainly find the places where their coming from. Look from within your house and patch the holes. And a cat might help. people give cats away all the time in the local paper!

We had a mouse problem for a couple of years. At first I used the spring type traps, and just threw the thing away. The mice kept coming so I started to re-use them, it worked but it was nasty. The mice kept coming, I finally couldn't take it anymore and got poison, and that took care of the problem. I might add that we have no pets and the neither do our neighbors. Good luck

be sure the traps are located in their path, which you can find by looking for their droppings, unless you have also seen them scurrying around.
For the first three days, bait the trap (peanut butter) but don't set the trap. The mice will get over-confident and not be afraid of the trap. On the 4th day, set the trap with bait. This usually works. Then set it again for his spouse and kids.

Figure out where they are coming from? Do you live near a barn, warehouse? An exterminator is not a lot of money. Mice are ok, Rats, thats a big problem. You need to find the source of where they are coming from.

What are you baiting the traps with? Try peanut butter if you have not already. Peanut butter usually gets them every time. Decon works very good also, I've had very good results with decon.

Again use some decon, but this makes them thirsty so keep a bowl of antifreeze/water next to it. Works like a charm
