greatest: I used to think Chuck Heston was great until I watched him in Bowling for Columbine, now I would say Jack Nicholson.

worst: I think Burt Lancaster, he was too cheesy in all the re- runs, great guy I suspect , but he always was too clean and smiley.

I can't believe no one said Pauly Shore for worst...lol. That guy is the pits.

Best is harder though, Charlton Heston was epic, as was Audrey Hepburn. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey are tops. Modern era though, I would have to say (gasp) Leo Dicaprio.

We need to try not to use the quality of the film as the judgement of the actor - although it's true, of course, that the quality of acting can make or break a film.

Can't really say about "best". The reason why I find it hard to agree with those who say "Samuel L Jackson" is that he only ever plays the same person - himself; much in the way that Sean Connery always plays Sean Connery. They do it well, but they're not really showing 'great' acting.

Johnny Depp would have to be high up the list for me, purely from the variety of films that he's done in which he's been so good - Pirates (of course), "The Libertine" (fantastic, should have had an Oscar), "From Hell", "Gilbert Grape", "Chocolat", etc. etc.

Worst actors? Let's face it, Schwarzenegger has to be near the top of the list there. I love some of his films, but he simply cannot act. "True Lies" was the film in which he got closest to being passable, but have you seen "Raw Deal"?

Greatest: Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, I can't decide, they're both great actors.
Worst: I've seen a lot of bad actors... I agree with you on what you said about Burt Lancaster.

Greatest: Jimmy Stewart - he had a very wide range as an actor. Everything from serious Hitchcock roles to comedies like Philidelphia Story.

Worst: Keifer Sutherland over-acts way too much.
