I would save my parents first. my husband can swim if he needed to. (plus he has screwed me over so many times that I would just look at him and think "hmmmm... what to do... what to DO?....." )

I agree with Jimmy and Brommy on this one: Your mother has lived her life, and our spouse is the person we either have had, or will have children with, plus, we are closer with our spouse than our parents. While we love our parents very much, our love for our spouses is suppose to be different, more deeper and richer as she/he is our lilfes companion, best friend and lover and father or mother of your children. If your spouse isn't these things, then you need to find one who will be. Also, would you want to leave your children half orphans? I think not, as sudies have shown over and over that children who grow up with both their parents, even if the family has varying degrees of dysfunction, do better across the board, socially, acedemically, and then with their own families, than do children raised with one parent, for whatever reason, divorce, death, etc.
So, hands down goes saving your spouse and if it isnt' that way,, then find someone who it will be that way for. It is a very easy decision for me, I would be saving my husband while saying goodbye to my mother. Sad as it would be, it is the truth, and is as it should be.
Cool question though, I am glad you asked it, as it can helped people think about how much their spouse really means to them, like the person who said she would save her mom in a heartbeat over her husband as he has done her wrong one too many times. If that is the case then why is he still her husband? LIfe is for joy, not drugery, and staying married to a man you don't love, respect or like is drugery of the woste sort in my opinion. Live life to the fullest while honoring yourself, and joy and happiness will soon follow.

Sure you can't get another Mom, but Mom has lived her life and would want you to save your husband or wife, In the Bible it says you leave your parents and cling only unto your spouse!

Stupid, trap question... you have no idea how stupid, dumb and trapping. There would NEVER be a situation where all three could be equally in the same peril, and therefore you would have to choose. The answer, is always to save the one easiest to save with least amount of peril to yourself...... Duhhh... You can't win this one...Your grandmother is an idiot

That would be a very hard decision to make. Just jump in the water with them to see how will save you first.

I would ask them to choose between them. I cant make desicions like that. I dont know what an abyss is but i know my mother would sacrafice herself for my spouse. She loves me so much and she is very selfless. But if i stopped loving my spouse i would save my mom

Logically, I think it would make more sense to save your wife/husband....they are younger, you may have kids with them, and they're someone you chose to love....but the again, since when have emotional topics been logical?

my wife, because i'd be hoping to have kids with her... and my mother has lready lived her life more so than my wife in age difference and stuff...
Also the difference in love between the two i would believe neither could refute the fact that you know your wife more intemately than your mum
