i am an anti virus admin(trainee), i find in some machines that are not getting updated, when i check the services they all are running but why the updates stopped. we r using mcafee software (client) and epo ( agent) . i am not able to understand why the update has stopped even all the systems in network . Before it worked ( i mean a pc) fine now it stopped on middle. it is creating a big problem to me. please help me ...........

I would reboot into Safe Mode and run the scan again. I would suspect an active virus that is preventing removal and causes your anti-virus to crash. Safe mode is entered by using the F8 key during the startup sequence. Hit F8 just before the Windows welcome screen appears, so you get a boot menu. Pick SAFE MODE from the startup menu.
You might also have some nasty Spyware. You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

I would search the mcafee support website/kb on the service stopping. If the service is set to automatic, only external items can stop it (certain viruses will do this). Also, as you are corporate level, maybe a call to them would be appropriate.
Sorry, I know you are locked into it and cant switch, but I am not a big fan of mcafee.
