Again I think it comes down to rejection! Nobody likes to be rejected! It's easy on here or in a chat room or on MSN because you don't see the person you are chatting with. The phone is very similar you can talk to people on the phone without hesitation because you can't see them and they can't see you.
I like your point tho, because a lot of people think that people who speak to strangers in public are strange or that they want something from you! I remember when I was younger going to the country or to a small town, everybody said hello to you there while you walked down the street, I loved going to the country because it always seemed so much more friendly! Take care. *hugs* JAC< in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Because it is as personal as one can get without getting personal. To be face to face is too personal for 2 strangers; being on the 'net is personal without getting reactions which could be negative, which is not what most people would be comfortable with. And there's nothing wrong with saying hi to a stranger. I do it if the person seems okay, not if it's someone who appears to be psycho, though. People are afraid that if you approach the wrong person, they could have a gun or something. So it's easier to play it safe.

I guess its because everyone is anti social to a certain point. On the web theres no confontation, you can say what you want without any commitment or without getting punched in the face.

Because if someone I meet online turns out to be a thumper or any other form of Psycho I can turn them off with a click. In real life it results in having to use mace or violence.

Because it is easier to talk to someone when you're not looking at them face to face, and maybe they're worried about the way they look and they don't have to face them. Again it's mainly the person to person contact.
