I'm Indian & know a lot of people who still practice marriage arrangements. Personally, I don't get it and can't see how you can meet someone one day & marry them the next. It seems odd and very superficial. I know a lot of the men hate their wives & vice versa. Why is this so appealing & why hasn't the tradition died out yet?

BCZ the money. they want to marrie their sons and daughters with a person that have more money, to give social status. i'm not in favor of that, i think that a person should get married for love, not for their parenst frustrated dreams. An you are right, a person that get married without love will hate the other. Find your "blue prince"

Actually I know several very happy arranged Indian marriages and even marriages for love have less than a 50/50 chance these days.

Some people are very traditional.

because it takes along time for traditions to die out.

I think many people who get an arranged marriage today are doing so because it is being pushed on them by their parents (or other family members) who want to keep this tradition going.

arranged marriages still occur because many cultures still consider it the best way to ensure the strength of family; western marriage certainly doesn't seem to be an ideal model, does it?

I hate arranged marrages. It's terrible. There families feel it's safer, they already know the person that he/she is arranged to get married to. It makes it easier for the family.
