I believe everyone should want a decent education, but there are some who will not put out the effort even when available!

That depends on what you mean by "decent". I think people should have a chance to get enough education to allow them to make a decent living. That would put them in a position where they could pay for more education after that point, if they want it. And they should have to pay for as much of the first portion as they can reasonably afford. I work in the higher education sector, and I have a son who's about to enter college soon. I know the costs, and I don't think it's unreasonable for a person to pay for at least some of their own college. I paid for over 80% of my own when I was in school. Doing so made me value it all that much more than the kid who said, "Dad's paying for it, so I think I'll take skiing as an gym elective, and private pilot ground school just because it sounds like fun".

The exception to the rule above is when the person doesn't have the ability to use an education, or can't learn it in the first place. By this I mean a person with Down's Syndrome, for example. Odds are, no amount of training will allow them to be a mathematician, for example. Even then, they should have some vocational training to allow them to do something that helps society.

Is there even such a thing as a 'decent education' these days? I think not.

To have a right to something implies a corollary: somebody must provide that something to you; who, and at who's expense?

I would like the gov out of the school biz, they've done a bad job.

I think everybody need a good education. It helps to solve problems and it makes you feel better. I know it's expensive but at least high school should be necessary.

YES! They should be afforded the opportunity to succeed regardless of race, color, or creed. Our Govt has the responsibility to provide the American people with the finest education possible, before they send any taxpayer money to other countries.

Yes, everyone should have the access to learn but not everyone should have access to university. There are many other ways to get a further education.

Pell grants and student loans guarantee that the poor can go to college.

As long as I am paying for my $100,000. graduate education, I cannot see the US giving those away any time soon.
