No. I don't think that the government should have that much interest in our personal lives.

No, because if the federal income tax was raised 6% across the board the entire amount (as are now all federal income taxes collected by the IRS) would also be paid to the Federal Reserve Bank to pay the interest on the national debt (check the congressional financial abstract for the truth of these figures). The money for such programs can only be borrowed from the Federal Reserve, due to the outrageous deficit spending practices of those legislating our already existing welfare state…. Sorry, no stitches for Jr. when he falls off the urban ghetto swing set…

If the government could provide universal health care by raising my taxes by 6% that would save me a whole lot over what I'm presently paying for health insurance. So sure I'd support that.

It depends on if the medical/health care raised prices for services and medicines by at least 6% to offset their costs. A lot of people rip off medicare/medicaid by charging more under those programs than they would charge if you were buying it out of pocket. there is much fraud and the granting of big government contracts is always chance for the kind of graft and corruption people say they voted out the republicans to get rid of. Plus there is the choice issue, if the healthcare can be used anywhere at any hospital, dorctor or facility, then I'd be for it. The Veterans Aministration programs are a hassle in time and location trying to get any services out of them.

Of course, I'm Canadian and thats what we do. For $300 per month income tax I get $650 coverage.

You are not a socialist on this issue! Only ultra right-wing Americans see health care that way. The rest of the planet is waiting for you to catch up! Your system costs us. Economies of scale cannot be fully achieved in your system. Our Doctor's are private companies paid by the government. We get massive savings from having one insurer-the government.
The proof that universal medical isn't socialist is in the United Nation's "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" - drafted by a Canadian, pushed through the U.N. by an American!

What tax? Federal Income tax, State income tax, Property tax. sales tax? We certainly need a universal health care program. If everyone paid a monthly payment like you do for an HMO, but it covered everything. I think it would be fair.

It depends on how the program would be run and who would end up paying the most. I don't think it's fair for the poor and middle class to have to pay the same percentage of taxes as the rich, since the rich can certainly afford it more.

Yes - but I would have to agree on the plan and implementation. It is shameful that this country has so many with no accessibility to proper health care. We should still keep private care for those who want it but A universal plan would save lives and improve life for so many.

definitely... I'm paying MUCH more than 6 percent for my health care now... and I never even go to the doctor...

you can't put a price on good health... it's just going to keep going up until no one can afford it but the top 5 percent... it's well on it's way now... fewer and fewer employees are offering insurance and those that do have are offering worse and worse benefits in the insurance...

and Canada does not pay an extra 30 percent for each person for it's healthcare... that would be more expensive than ours... and ourse is about 3 times more expensive per person on average than any system in the world...

I would go as high as 10% - but only if it were privately run. I certainly can't buy health insurance for any less.

I would stipulate again, however, that it would have to be privately managed. I can't imagine the same bureaucracy that runs the Social Security and the Welfare systems having any say over my health.

I would be more in favor of cutting government spending by 6% to pay for it.

I would also like to add that we can start reducing health care costs by educating people on proper diet and excercise which would dramatically cut illness in our society.
