for some reason, my dvd rom drive only recognizes some dvd movies. they are all region 1 dvd, but only some gets recognized. for example, i just bought a new dvd movie from best buy, but my player won't recognize it. but my dvd player reconginze another movie that i bought. what is wrong, and how can i fix it.

Some dvd players, particularly computer dvd drives have problems with some dvds. It depends on the quality of the media and if its scratched or damaged. Since you bought the dvd new, its probably not scratched, but you should look anyway. You should also try a lens cleaner disc for the dvd drive. There are several companies that make dvd media and compatibility can vary from company to company. Unfortunately there is not much you can do about media compatibilty other than to use a different dvd drive or a standalone dvd player (their media compatibility is sometimes a little better).
