Forklifts are not hard to operate at all. The toughest part is steering. It is quite a bit different when you steer wit the rear end. Just take it slow the first couple of days. When you carry a load down hill go backwards. Always carry the load so you can see. This might include driving around backwards. When you pick up the load keep it low and tilt it back. When setting something down tilt forwards first. Stacking is difficult at first but you will get the hang of it.

No problem, the steering wheel is like a car but moves the rear wheels. There is a forward reverse lever on the steering column, keep it in neutral to start. To the right hand are usually three levers. One raises the forks, one tilts the forks back so the cargo doesn't slip, the other shifts the forks left or right to keep the load balanced. Keep your foot on the brake, start the lift, ( use the seat belt) take off the emergency brake if it is applied, lift the forks off the ground a bit and go forward or reverse. Forklifts are extremely heavy and can tip over. Go slow and practice starting and stopping. Always stay with the forklift even in a tip over do not try to jump. Raising and lowering the forks and retrieving a load is something that takes a lot of practice so don't do it. There are schools to teach you the proper procedures. If you are caught teaching yourself, you will no doubt be fired. Have fun!

If you don't know how to operate it, stay off. The forklift is a heavy powerful tool and you can seriously damage surrounding property or worse injure or kill someone, if you are a "newbie" driver.
It isn't something you just get on and run. There are so many things you have to know, it would be impossible to list them all here.
Don't try to bluff your way with this, you will lose. I have seen a lot of "drivers" that ran into walls and off of docks.

Never lift more than the listed capacity. Do not make quick turns while a load is up in the air. Left lever is up and down. Middle lever is tilt forward and backward. The third lever can be many things but usually left and right offset. Don't drive onto dirt unless there are dirt tires.
Many states now require certification unless you are working in farming.

There are companies that offer fork lift operator courses. Look in your yellow pages and you should be able to find something. If you really can't find anything there, the best place to look would be at your local employment agency, they will definitely have the information you are looking for.

You need very specialist training to do this.
They are dangerous if not operated correctly.
The owner should not let you operate it without the correct certification.
