Clear open government, independent congress and judicial system that cannot be manipulated by presidency. Clear separation of church and state- ie no intelligent design taught in schools, no head dresses allowed in public buildings. Freedom of speech within reason (nothing that offends others - to be decided on by judicial system) Taxes used to pay for education and social security/medicare- always ensure that a minumum wage pays better than benifits. Respect for the geneva convention and international agreements such as kyoto. Detached forign policy, no military manipulation of forign governments, instead use commercial incentives to encourage democracy (ie maybe the middle east would like to trade oil rather than rip them off). Only use military as a last resort to prevent attrocities such as genocide in conjunction with international community support.
thats a few ideas anyway, I guess I would also like to see honest debate from both sides instead of political rhetoric. Its unbeleivable that the debate over the iraq war in congress was reduced to catchy phrases like 'cut and run'. These people are being paid by taxpayers money - they have an obligation to have a serious debate rather than indulge in political spin.
By the way, im not even american, but i think these are the values that i think are best about your country and that they should be reflected in your government.

Evangelicals will no longer have a say in politics. Welfare is reduce or abolished instead private charities are offered to help the families and encourage them to find jobs. War should always be an option but let's make sure it's not the first option. Issues like abortion will be moot and Roe v. Wade won't be overturned. Gay marriage or civil unions, either one it's okay by me. More tougher sanctions on illegal drugs and to persecute those who sell it with longer jail time. Illegal immigration is stopped and there is a 1,000 mile wall and troops to guard it. Tax cuts for the middle-class and lower taxes. Unemployment checks should be ended. Affordable and better healthcare for people until the age of 20. Federal expansion of stem cell research and gun control is terminated. Big and strong National defense like Reagan's times. That is how my ideal world is like. Like it, hate it, love it. I don't care, this is how I think the world will be better.

... simply where the common man has a say in government... instead of the special interest being the priority...
where people are taken into consideration over money...
where no one has to be hungry and everyone can afford to go to the doctor if they are sick... and where children can get a good education no matter where they live
and where people are free to do what they want beyond that... it's not that complicated for me...

Not run the country by the dictates of big rich Religious organizations. Not let big business tell the rest of us how to live.
Live and let live. Don't try to pressure or put your beliefs on others and try to force them to worship as you do.
Stay out of foreign wars and leave everyone alone.

every one is on welfare and we get to pay a lot of taxes. and oh yea... everyone is homosexual. we would also listen to the dixie chicks and kanye west and continue to complain about the world but not do anything about it. then we would all drive expensive hybrid cars because of our fear of global warming (which isn't real because the earth goes through continuous warming and cooling periods.) then we would kill anyone who isnt atheist because we dont like religion or God.

They would have to control everyone's mind, not just what they write or say (as they try to do now with "political correctness"). I believe their utopian dream has the heart in the right place but they are sitting on their brains. It goes against historical human nature.
