I have had two Dell laptops, both for school, and I like both of mine. The one that I have had from 2002 still runs well, and I have only had some minor problems with it (mostly with the power cord breaking -- if you can, buy an extra cord even though as long as you have their service plan, they will replace it for free). Sometime I have had to reset it as well as the keyboard will stop working, but that only takes a minute. This one was very abused while I was in undergrad - I even dropped it once and all it suffered was a small crack near the screen which was a cosmetic issue but not functional.
I have had my new one since the summer, I'm pretty happy with. A lot more powerful than my last one, lovely screen, have only had a couple of minor issues that were quickly resolved, runs fast and is reliable. I have about the smallest model that you can get -- Inspiron 710m -- and it is very easy to carry back and forth to class. Light, but still able to take some abuse.
Some advice:
-Laptops get heavier the bigger you get. Twelve lbs doesn't seem like much, but when you are carrying it on your back with a couple of books, it can be a pain. The smaller models might be a bit more pricey, but come with about everything a larger model can, and is so much kinder to your arms and back.
-Always, always, always get extended service. It only costs about $100, and it is so, so, so worth it.
-I have heard that some people have had problems with Dells and just about every other brand, so make sure that you have a backup -- even if that backup is just saving your most important files on a flash drive.

I think my Dell laptop works great, and I'm happy with the way it works. I have owned it for about a year and a half, and I have had no major problems.
I'm not as jazzed about Dell as a company since I found out about the lackadasical way they responded to the problems with some of their laptop batteries a while ago. They recalled the batteries, but they should have started the recall a lot sooner. Some people believe that Dell was trying to see if they could get away with not spending money on the recall, even though a few people's batteries dangerously caught fire. In other words, it seems that they might care more about money than people.

Depends on what model you get and the price range you are going to pay. I have an inspiron and yes they are good. some models are rubbish but it also depends on the requiments you have. Your custome build them so make the right choises. They break easily if you touch the sreens or drop em or take them down the ponies and your horse treds on it lmao i wish i had never done that with mine! They are reliable i recomend the inspiron. aim for a price range of about £900 -£1100. The higher in price the more reliable they get. Dell also look after their customers and have a great customer service. Happy shopping. Much loves xxxx

i have my dell for around 3 years and never had any problems. i did send it to have the fan motor replaced because i thought it was running too long and wanted to replace before my warranty ran out. it has been reliable, great for travel the battery has lasted up to 5 hours of non-stop use and was still going. anyway i would recommend to anyone.

Yes they are very good. I am on my second one. There is nothing wrong with my older one, my husband decided he would use for his music programs and he bought me a new one. I have had no problems with them at all and they run just fine. The only problem I had on my old one was that I literally wore out the keyboard and my husband had to buy a replacement keyboard. It was easy to install and like I said it still works fine. It is about five years old. Yes I am talking about a laptop. I would buy another with no problem.

Yes, Dell equipment is very good. They make it out of reliable parts, and good manufacturing. There's always problems with mass manufacturing, but they have great warranties and technical help, so you can call explain your problem, and they'll help you through it.
I would highly recommend them over any other company.. esp when it comes to tech support and ease of warranties.

If the battery status mild flashes green and orange, the battery is basically too warm to fee. close down the pc, disconnect the pc from the electrical powered outlet, and then enable the battery and pc cool to room temperature.
