Nail biting is a symptom of displaced anxiety, like har twirling, fidgeting, etc. The key is to replace the habit with another one. Maybe you could buy him a squish-ball to squeeze (it is filled with silicon) or a polished stone to rub.

He was probably biting his nails when you meet him, so don't try to change him. Or is biting his nails just the tip of the iceburg?

FIRST OF ALL IF THIS IS THE WORST THAT HE DOES BE THANKFUL. IF OVER ALL HE IS A GOOD GUY WITH THIS ONE ANNOYING HABIT ASK YOURSELF, WHAT HE DOES THAT MAKES HIM THE GUY THAT LIGHTS YOUR FIRE? WOULD YOU DO ANYTHING FOR HIM TO STOP? BE CAREFUL HOW YOU ANSWER THAT,THE GRASS IS NOT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Well I do the same thing. Just ask him at times to please stop, because It's a nasty habbit. Everyone does it almost, just ask him that it's not a good thing to do. That's all! This site below is a good source to use though. I found it on the internet. Good luck!
