Is that based on a true story and if so, what are the details behind it?

The book was very successful and the film in Germany also.

The plot of the book is not a true story, but according to the critics the way the film describes the life during this time is very accurate.

There seems to be a underlying "real" story: Patrick Suesskind is a famous author, he wrote for the theater, books and a famous television series (Kir Royal) but he refuses to take any awards for them and lives like a hermit. You will not find a photograph of him on the Internet and there is only one photograph which is already years old published in German newspapers. He is definitely alive and works and publishes and he communicates (he was on the set of the film and had longer conversations with the director and actors) but he does not want to be in public.

There is an interpretation that he describes his own personality in this book, but as he has not commented on this it is only speculation.

I enclosed some websites with more information.

I have not seen the film (only trailers) but will see it in the US when it comes out.
