You probably have a dialer virus, you can remove and dial up networks in your internet options under tools in Internet Explorer, dialer's create a dial up network so they can earn money if you use it. Use a virus scanner with a new update to scan your computer, also do a scan for spyware. You may just have your old dial up settings on there, just remove the settings.

Updates? are u talking about windows nagging you for software update? Windows doesnt know that u wont be using dial up so it just updates everything it thinks possible. Just be cautious and check for viruses / spyware cos this sounds wierd

the windows updater updates all aspects of the computer, not just the things you use. You can avoid those updates by checking the box that says "Hide this update" but if its from windows update, why not go ahead. never know when you might be faced with using it.

If it isnt from windows update itsself, then i would install it, but if its from another source, then tell it no, and try to disable it asking.
