No, it really is a ordinary Serial Bus circuit which has a USB port connected so that you'll be able to plug your flash rigidity, cam, printer or different USB pushed gadget in and use them. A flash rigidity is nearly like a HDD in that it would want to save archives, %., or what ever into memory and be plugged into the USB port to be study or used.

It really doesn't matter at all. Some flash drives have a password, which can be nice if you're concerned about the security of your data, but internally they're very similar. Just look for sales at Best Buy, Circuit City, or any other electronics/computer store.

For small to medium size files, you need a 1GB to 2GB drive. I suggest you make sure you have backed up your data and go for a cheap one.
(Kingmax is small and cheap, and thus far reliable for me)

The picture does not do this drive any justice. It is the size of the USB slot itself, and is fast and reliable.
I also have a 1GB Memorex TravelDrive which is alot bigger, but was the cheapest one I could find 2 yrs ago.

I have never had a problem with either drive, and I use them constantly, both at work and at home.
If you are carrying around pictures and MP3's and video, then your better off building yourself an external HD with a Laptop HD which will be 40GB for the price of a 4GB thumb drive. It will still fit in your pocket. ($60 for HD, and $15 for case).

In general, when buying memory (like flash drives), you get what you pay for. There are many good ones out there, but stay away from anything that is inexplicably cheap compared to other drives with the same capacity.

I have a 2 gig "MyFlash". I bought it online from tigerdirect for $60. It uses a built in fingerprint scanner to encripting the info instead of a password. P/N A208-1080 at http://www.tigerdirect.com

My personal favorite is my OCZ Rally. But if I had to buy one now I'd get a Lexar Lightning.
