I know it is an HONORABLE form of insincerity, but it's still insincerity. What do you think? Why or why not?

.i guess it could be.....-like saying 'Hello" to the person that u dont really like that much..or saying "please and thank you" when you dont really care, or holding the door open for people even when u really dont want to do it..yeah, i think i understand what your saying now..i think u can be insincere in your politeness-but politeness is not supppoed to be insincere..its supposed to come form the heart and stuff...

I think to answer this question you need to ask yourself if you're being insincere by being polite. For example, I love my parents therefore I try to always be polite to them (of course within acceptable parameters: my dad likes swearing and so I do as well and we don't consider it impolite). I am polite to strangers on the street because I would like to receive politeness in return: a tit for tat, no insincerity there. But a lot of times politeness has a... hidden agenda. I'm extremely polite to a girl in my class right now because quite frankly I want to get in her pants. She likes me a lot (partially for my politeness) which would probably not be the case if she knew my ulterior motives. >:)

If your motive is only not to offend others, it's sincere. If your motive is to take advantage of others (like con-men), it is insincere.
