MLA papers follow a very strict format. Some basic guidelines to follow:
Type your paper on a computer and print it out on standard, white 8.5 x 11-inch paper,
Double-space the text of your paper, and use a legible font like Times New Roman or Courier.
Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks (unless otherwise instructed by your instructor).
Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides. Indent the first line of a paragraph one half-inch (five spaces or press tab once) from the left margin.
Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor may ask that you omit the number on your first page. Always follow your instructor's guidelines.)

As far as writing the actual essay, it is no different than any other essay. You must include in-text citations in the proper format. Start with a good clear topic and a strong thesis. Use textual evidence to support your thesis. You must also include a works cited page, and if your instructor requires it, a bibliography. If you need any more help with this, feel free to e-mail me@

Do you need to write an essay in MLA format? If so, just go to your local community college or college bookstore and pick up the guidelines, called the "MLA Handbook". MLA is a "style" of writing an essay where you cite references in a specific format.
Here's a link with more information about MLA style:

i just wrote one. i believe it has to be double spaced, in the left hand corner of your first page put your name, your teacher or whovever assigned it, the course, and date. the title of the paper must be centered but dont underline it, no quotations and dont write it in all caps. thats just the basics, you can check out these sites: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/01/
