No matter what you do for a living you'll hate it sometimes. You need to find inner happiness. A job won't bring you that. The other posters were dead on. You can do something else if you want to. But don't expect that to cure all of your ills. Be happy now and be even happier later in a better job.

This is a very personal question and many different answers . One thing I want to stress, so many people convince them selves that they are stuck and this is the last stop for them. We all have circumstances,we all have responsibility, maybe family, bills, and people around us that don't want us to take chances because collecting a paycheck is safe, people like guarentees.
I work in the financial services industry and it's an opportunity to build a business within a business helping people out of debt. I also recruit for my biz and talk to many people everyday. The question that you asked makes up the majority of the middle class demographic.
I'm not gonna sit here and say "Hey, make the best of it ". When I was transitioning from a job to building this business, I got to compare the two worlds. One world was cynical, fake, people would talk crap about everybody and just existing.
The other world was full of hope, people who want to win and achieve freedom for them and their families. It was nice going to work, being the only happy person there because I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I strongly disagree with the old world mentality of go to school, get good grades, get a good secure job with benefits and just be happy you are working . I know not everybody wants to be an entrepeneur but at least you have a shot at greatness and not just a shot at a paycheck and on avarage 7 years of life left at retirement to enjoy yourself .
Find your goals and make the best choice for you and your family . Just settling for a dead end job in the long run is in nobodys best intrest.See ya at the top.

If this is your career, change industries every few years.
This is what I do as an Environmental Engineer. I can't move up the company ladder. When I get bored at a company, I switch to another industry, with more responsibility (larger plant, specialized regulations, etc.). I also get a $10K increase per job hop.
If this is a job (non-exempt or hourly), have them pay for your college education. That will open a lot of doors for you.

make a list of each thing you dislike about your job... one at a time attack that list and see if there is anything and I mean anything that you can to do change the way in which you look at that aspect of your current job... after you have gone thru the list at least twice if the job has not changed enough for the better then make another list... in it put all the things you wish your job would let you do. Rewrite your resume in the best possible light and send it out on Monster.com .... if all else fails get a dog and work hard at being the kind of successful person that he thinks you are. watch his face when you come home with ham turkey and pork and beef he will think that you are the absolute greatest hunter in the world.

I am in the same rut as you right now, I work for a packaging company. I have been doin it for 6 months now, and I absolutely hate it. I often find myself contemplating what I want to do with my life. At times it is hard to find sanity in a job with no direction.

You as a person have the ability to change what you dont like. work to live not live to work. you only live once so do what you want, find a job you enjoy even if it means a drop in wages. cash isn't everything. how much is 40 hours misery worth ?

LIFE is short.
Seize the day.
Live every day as if it were your last.
Don't WASTE another minute of your LIFE in a dead-end job.
The others who posted answers are right. Educate yourself if you can. At least get a job that won't kill your soul.
Good luck.

FIND HOPE!!! you'll find hope in education. Decide what you would enjoy doing and start studying that field. No matter how long it takes you will know eventually you can change jobs.
