It seems that some people don't even bother reading the question before they stick their two cents of expert (sic) knowledge to the test ... with the wrong information.

What you'll need to do is purchase a PCI USB 2.0 card that slots into a free PCI slot (usually coloured white) on your motherboard. In that respect, you simply do plug it in. Of course, you'll then need to install drivers that will come on a CD with the USB card. This is straightforward enough, so no need to worry.

Check, first, that you do have a free PCI slot available. There's no sense in buying an expansion card if you've got nowhere to fit it.

Unfortunately, you can't upgrade the USB 1.0 or 1.1 slots that are already on your computer. If you did purchase a hub, as some have already suggested, the connection will still only run at USB 1.0 or 1.1 speed.

Take the plunge! Go for it. I've only got USB 1.1 on my motherboard, but I've installed a PCI USB 2.0 card, and it was so straightforward it's unbelievable.

If you have Windows XP then its as easy as installing a USB 2 card, and install SP2 (off windows updates) which will allow it to run at USB2 speed. Your old USB1 ports will still only run at USB 1 speed though.
