I've heard of a writer called Robert Craig, but he doesn't write detective novels.

His agents say "ROBERT CRAIG (1963) has been working for the post office for 200 years, lives in Bradford, always has done and probably always will. He has just put the final touches on a new novel called WISHES ARE FISHES which will go on submission to UK publishers shortly."

Perhaps you are thinking of Robert Crais, the author of the Elvis Cole novels and some others. His books are very good. I have a collection of them.
