wel i worked in a newsagents for many years and they only made 3 maybe 4p per paper sold. Its the same with fags and booze, lottery, etc. Its just to get people in the door, if u went to the newsagents to get the papers ur more likely to pick up milk bread or whatever else, same with the lottery it gets people in their shops.
As for a street seller i aint got a clue they maybe get a bit more and get tips too. Ask one the next time u see one?

They use a system called sale or return so have no initial outlay. They do not make a lot of profit on the papers, it is the additional income generated by people visiting the shop that leads to profit. However they do get the chance to join in promotions and can get a bonus that way.

newsagents by the newspaper from the newspaper companies for less then the selling price not the other way around that way both companies make a profit

I work in a news shop, and we do get a percentage of the sales, but like it's been said the profit is very small, but it gets people in the shop, and they do get other things while their in. At the moment we have allot of work going on outside the shop and we get alto of the builders coming in for their paper and getting their lunch at the same time, just out of convenience.

i dont think they get them at a discount, i think they are paid to sell them. or its how many they sell or buy i dont know
