This is "removing parentheses." This is a skill that you must learn before going on to algebra with "The Big Kids." It means doing everything you can inside the parentheses before going outside. So inside the parentheses, (6+1) = 7. The 3 times the 7 = 21. Then you take that "minus," it makes -21. Or you can take -3 times 7 = -21.
