For the money, it's the best console out there right now. The Wii is also great, but you didn't ask about that. The PS3 is way too much money for what it does. It's not that much more powerful than the 360, not much at all.
The fact that you can download demos of games from Xbox Live is a great feature. Lets you play games before you buy them which is always good. Another great thing about it are the games themselves. They look great and the controls feel very good on all the games I have.
I've played all three nex-gen consoles (own the 360 and the Wii, won't pay the money for the PS3 because I was expecting something better for that kind of cash) and the 360 is my favorite.

I will be honest with you, you can waste your money on this computer if your not carefull.
First of all buy the xbox 360 full system package or you will have to run around looking for this , that and the other.
Secondly buy the Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack & the Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit.
Don't buy the Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit its a waste of money. Its just a hugh wire.
Lastly, if your wanting xbox live keep in mind it sometimes shuts off because too many are on it (they are trying to fix that) and internet conections are difficult to work with (can be slow and crash).
Also don't buy Just Cause or Fifa 07, they are HUGH waste of money.
Better with Pro evolution soccer 6, the only problems with that are.
1.) You can't edit players numbers, club or looks
2.) There is no german league
Hope that helpsPS: Just make sure you don't get yourself into debt cause it's not worth it just for a computer system. This will cost you close to £700 -£800.
Hope that helps :-)

There is a game called Morrowind that you can really lose yourself in. Especially with a large screen. The graphics are not that much better than X1, no mature High Definition around yet really.
I started playing computer games with the flight simulator on the ZX81. I've played on most platforms. God! the years I've spent in darkness.
Anyway. It's got a hard drive and USB ports on the outside. It is essentially a PC without the keyboard. it can play movies and music. The Hard drive can store your CD collection. It does lots of stuff, that's why it's called X. Microsoft is ambushing the PC/Console markets.
It's a bit of a hassle getting the older, favourite, better X1 games onto it. As I'm not connected I can't. I fear Bill is lying in wait for Sony before it adds a few nicer titles. It is a drag.
I don't know if this is the incarnation you want to get. In a few years the memory aught to be in terabytes and you could store loads of movies as well.
It will come with a much simpler (automatically set up) access to mobile/net/TV/Typewriter/Library functions. Maybe you should wait.
Get a little sunshine instead.

360 is a complete multi-media machine.
It plays fantastic games like Gears of War, Has brill Graphics, Dolby Sound and is HDTV ready with an external HDDVD player available for £129.
It plays standard dvd's out of the box, it is a cd player and plays back photo and windows media cd's.
If you have a pc, it connects to it either by a router or by wireless conection, it can then play videos, show your photos and stream music from the PC.
Then there is xbox live, out of the box you get the "silver account" that allows you to chat to your friends online and download trailers etc. Upgrade to the "Gold" account for £40 YEAR OR £4.99 MONTH and you can download demo's and play online against friends and people from all over the world.
What more could you want from a games machine. The PS3 is strugling to get off the ground with supply issues and is too expensive in comparison, plus not available til March next year!

I would reccomend it,but if you do buy the premium package not the core. The premium comes with the harddrive, wireless controller and headset wich the core only comes with system and wired controller if you were to buy those compontes seperately the money you spent on cores plus accessorys you could have bought premium cheaper. Its just a matter of personall preference if you really want one but trust me premium is way to go. But good question

Halo 3 will be out at some point.
My mate gave me a good piece of advice when I was toying with buying a console.
He said 'Look at the games available on each console and decide which one you want based on that'
I went with X Box because of Halo.
