I have an 87 Chevy Celebrity that surges. It will run really good for a couple of hours and then all of a sudden it will start surging and run really bad like it needs new plug and wires. When the car is surging it will go 20mph without mashing the gas and uses double the gas than I usually use.

I have replaced the plugs, wires, oxygen sensor and idle air control valve. I cant find the crankshaft sensor to replace it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Rather than just throwing parts (and money) at the little car, retrieve the trouble codes and work from there. Diagnostics are fairly straight forward, though can take some time. if you are like most people, you have more of one than the other.
Go here---->

...and scroll down below the code description to read the discussion that describes the procedure for retrieving the codes with a paperclip.
With the codes in hand, use a repair manual (library, Amazon, parts store) and follow the recommended procedure for DIAGNOSING the cause, then repair as necessary. Follow the trouble tree to avoid replacing unnecessary parts and wasting time doing what won't help.

Good Luck

not easy issue with the tips you gave, i elect to assert carry it over and shall we take a glance, yet it particularly is not functional. Is it carberated or gas injected. i think that a variety of of of your ignition modules is the two not working or the plug wires are put in incorrectly. in case you have not have been given one, purchase a Chilton's handbook for that vehicle, they're approximately $20 and mutually as not appropriate, they're extremely worth their weight in gold for stuff like this. Retrace your steps taken using fact the 1st issue arose, examine that each little thing grew to become into properly attached, extremely examine if any vacuum strains are off or broken. the vacuum strains i'm speaking approximately are created from one million/8" black plastic, you will see them working everywhere under the hood. one among them could have been broken whilst the plugs have been replaced they get very brittle with age. Our vehicle is a 12 months extra moderen than yours and this grew to become right into a issue i found in basic terms the former day. in case you have get right of entry to to a code reader, plug it in and it will save you hours and hours of frustration and sleepless nights.
