I think people are saying it's only morally wrong because they don't understand the meaning of "moral", and just see it as outright wrong to steal.

Whether it is moral or not comes from within, if you can justify stealing the gifts for your children as a good thing to do for you, and it's not causing harm to others then, it's not an immoral act.

That being said, Christmas is about more than gifts, which is something you should definitely be teaching your children. Christmas is about family, and being happy and thankful for those that you have around you.

My heart goes out to you because I know it's hard for children to understand that Christmas isn't about presents, but there are agencies out there that can help you make sure that you have something for your children without stealing.

Afterall christmas wouldn't be very nice with their parent in trouble would it?

Why do something that could mess up your ability to provide them with a good christmas in future years.

Good Luck to you.

Interests me why you would ask this question, when you already know the answer.

If you are aware enough to ask if your actions fit within the framework of morality then it follows you know what is moral and what is not. Otherwise, you'd first have to ask "what is morality".

Are you really asking how you can justify stealing so that your actions would keep you within the guidelines of moral behavior?

That is a much more difficult question to answer. Is killing morally and ethically acceptable? We might quickly say no. I would say the philosophic answer would be yes. War and home invasion (with the intent to harm) are two exceptions that come to mind.

Over my life, I've acted immorally, and unethically. I've exhibited self will run riot. Then I found a philosophical principal that is my measure to any action I am ready to take. I ask myself

"will I strengthen the good Karma I have working for me, or will I weaken it?"

Simple question--cut-and-dried answer.

Good Karma comes to me from everywhere. It's the simple things like a parking spot opening up, during a rainstorm, when a car starts backing out as I drive up. Or the important blessing like protection when driving. And, money coming in the mail, unexpectedly, when the bank account is empty and five days to go until payday.

I try always to choose to strenghten my Karma. There is no room for justifications of any kind. It's just one question. So, for me, should I be attacked in my home, I would fight back. If I killed my attacker, I am confident I would not weaken my Karma for my action.

Stealing is wrong for whatever reasonl. Why give your kids that kind of message. There is always ways to make christmas great even with one gift under the tree. And that is with Quality time with them. One year my kids did a Will do housework once a week for a yr. Type of present anything is great. But stealing NO definitely not

What kind of example are you setting for your children? Is stealing wrong? PLEASE!!!! There are soooo many resources and programs available today to help parents give their children a nice Christmas.

Ask yourself this: If I get caught doing something morally wrong, such as stealing, how would....no wait, WHAT would your children think then. When their parent is in jail for theft over Christmas! Now imagine how guilty THEY would feel knowing you committed a crime on their behalf?

Swallow your pride, go the local police department or community outreach center or even local churches and find out how to get your children signed up for assistance.

Yes is is morally wrong and it is illegal. Contact the united way, social services and community groups they can help you sign up for free gifts from charities. If you need a better or just a job try the unemployment office and employment centers like manpower or apple one - stealing is never a good option because worst case scenario you could lose your kids and go to jail.

Stealing is wrong no matter what the reason.

If someone needs funds to buy Christmas gifts for children, there are plenty of agencies that can help. What good will it do to be in jail or on trial if one is caught?

One should swallow his/her pride and ask for help. The kids do not need to know. Even if they do, they will see the adult asking for help in a proper way. Later on, when things are 'better' the adult can 'pay back' through donated time or money.

Yes, it is wrong to steal under those circumstances, even though I can understand the desire to give presents to kids.

Check with various organizations that give Christmas gifts to kids whose parents can't afford them.

One idea if you have a little girl - one year when we had very little money, I went to a fabric store and went through their remnant bin and got some material really cheap, and made doll clothes for her doll. She got a whole box of doll clothes, and was very happy with what Santa had brought.

Good luck.

Like, DUH! Of course its wrong!! God says DO NOT STEAL!! Why on Earth would he say it was ok for you to do it in order to celebrate the birth of his son on earth?? EVEN MORE OF A NO NO!! And I mean, sheesh, Christmas isn't even Jesus' birthday, so why lie to your kids and tell them that it is? Its nothing but a huge , commercialized LIE to celebrate what the early Catholic church chose as the day to supposedly celebrate his birthday because it fell on the same day as the Winter Solstace( sp? ) and by doing this and combing the two holidays that had NOTHING to do with each other, they managed to 'convert' more pagans into their version of christianity.

Why not do the research and teach your kids the truth instead of following the crowd and all of their lies that make you feel guilty enough to contemplate STEALING to satisfy your conscience over a completely made up , over commercialized holiday?

screw those who say its wrong... they only say its wrong because they have a fear to do it!

No it isnt wrong, if you dont have the money then you can be proud to steal it... companies today are placing emphasis on families having to give gifts and not spend time with their family...

people say stealing is wrong because they live by rules, they only think about how if something was stolen from them then how they would feel, i say if it was stolen from you then a better person has it...

JUST BECAUSE ITS LEGALLY WRONG DOESNT MEAN ITS WRONG! MAN MADE LAWS...

you can call me a bad person but if you know that you can %100 get away with and are willing to live with it, go for it. and even if you do get caught hell the kid will at least gotten to visit you in jail. that's a gift within itself. just think of all the life experiences you could give them through it. but seriously, i know its hard when you can't give your kids what they want for christmas or maybe you can't give them anything. but contact a local charity at least before you risk something more than a disappointing christmas.
