yes..... heuristics is essential for survival and is quite instinctual....

when an animal finds an obstacle in front of them....maybe a tree in the way.... it will follow the guidelines of physics it has realised from birth .... ie gravity .... and discover or invent a way around.... heuristics does not have to be complicated.....

you can find out through various tests... i recall a documentary where a group of chimps were put in a room with food out of reach, hanging from the ceiling, and the chimps worked out a way to get it, using nearby materials to fashion a sort of climbing tower..... tell me that isnt heuristics........

Yes, they do. For example, if rats get rewarded 70% for pressing a red button and 30% for pressing a green button, they will end up pressing the red button ALL the time.
