Yes there is a charity called 'Chinese Girls with Herpes' - it was founded in 1986 when there was a particularly bad epidemic in the Ningxia Hulzu Zizhiqu region amongst very young girls. A number of celebrities in Hollywood were approached about helping with medication costs and there was an astonishing response at that time. However, the charity is struggling now and David Gest has amazingly brought it back to prominence in his announcement. I believe Sofia Loren is president of the charity at this moment, and she still does talks in the far east to raise money for the charity at her age. So even though it did appear to be a hoax charity it is in fact not.

I think that was a really stupid thing to do. One of the reasons charities work with celebs on these sorts of things is to raise the profile of their cause. If I was fundraising manager for whatever charity he is supporting, I'd be really annoyed over that conversation.
