What happens if you don't rake your leaves in your back yard? We got a fence so we don't have to worry about it blowing into our neighbords yards, but is it okay to not rake them?

well if you don't your grass will die. if you don't have grass well i guess it doesn't matter but you would end up with lots of bugs and it takes a while for leaves to decompose so i would suggest it if you do have grass mow the leaves first so you don't have as many to pick up with the rake.

Definitely rake, or you will be getting mold in your yard, the snow and the leaves will ruin your grass. Get some help if you need to but do rake. Better for your health too .

I agree with the 5 prior answers, and want to mention another problem. Leaves, in general, are highly acidic. Allowing them to decompose through the Winter will release this acidity into the ground adversely affecting the grass next season. You will then have the added task of putting oddles of lime on your lawn to counter this effect, as well as raking in the Spring. Of course, if you enjoy yard work..........

If you wish, but over the course of the winter they will begin to decompose and kill the grass beneath them. The leaves will turn to black mush and you'll have yellow spots on your lawn where the grass has died.

people get too anal about leaves... simply mow them with a power mower so that they are chopped up and use them to mulch your yard and around anything that you are tyring to grow raking them and bagging them just fills up landfills and garbage trucks

If you don't get them up before they get wet and compacted, you'll have a really hard time next year.Trust me you don't want to deal with it next year after a winter under the snow and ice. It's not pleasant.

well that is your choice, but if there is any moisture under them, they can cause your yard to mold in areas
