I don't know much about 16th century paintings on wood, but I myself paint on wood... can you ask what you need to with that information?

The largest oil on wood painting that I've seen is the "Calvary" in Groeninge Museum in Belgium, dating from 1500.

Its pretty big at around 1.4m x 2.25m - the sizes you say are colossal, I've never seen anything quite that big

Nice one, John B.

Quite how you worked that one out from the question (i.e. different century and "The Nightwatch" is painted on canvas not wood) is pretty impressive - hope you get the 10 points for that good work.

I suspect that this is what you mean - it is 17th century not 16th.http://www.theartgallery.com.au/arteducation/greatartists/rembrandt/thenightwatch/index.html
