Well, you should visit China or Africa to adopt one.

Well I live in Canada, and here, if you adopt through the Children's Aid Society (our version of the Department of Child Welfare, or whatever you guys have there) it is completely free and it's quick because there are so many children waiting for homes. Yes the kids are older (usually 3 and up, if you want a child quickly - any younger then you have to deal with longer waiting lists), often they are not caucasian (if that bothers you, then you'll be on a longer waiting list), some have behavioural issues or learning problems, but most just need a consistant loving home to get past those challenges. Good Luck

I don't really have an answer for you, but I just wanted to encourage you to keep trying. I saw the response about can't afford it, why try? It's not a kitten? Whatever! We have two beautiful children and CAN afford them. However, the only thing stopping us from adopting is money. It's a lot easier to buy the every day things like diapers and food, than to come up with thousands of dollars at one moment. I understand where you're coming from. We've struggled with miscarriages and I felt the stress of adopting would be easier than the pain of a miscarriage. Some times I felt like I was just killing my babies waiting on a good one to come along. Every one of them were my babies no matter how long or short the pregnancy lasted, and I resent the idea that just because I may not have thousands of dollars to lay on a table in one day that I am not financially stable enough to provide a good home for my children. It doesn't come down to how much money you have, it comes down to where your priorities are. Are you going to take out a loan to pay for a 20,000 dollar car or 70,000 dollar home or are you going to adopt and rent and have a 5,000 dollar car. It doesn't take fancy stuff to raise good, healthy children. It takes love and priorities and a whole lot of other stuff :) I hope things work out for you. It sounds like you've gotten some good advice on here.

Check with your local church... many times they are aware of a unwed mother looking for a loving family to care for her unplanned pregancy.
But before going through that route... ck with your local state or county social welfare system. They offer the most affordable adoptions... though the process is very long. U have to go through a home case study etc...
If nothing else by getting the factual procedure in your state and the things u might not have consider... it will give u and your hubby plenty of time to really be sure and pre-solve alot of issues prior to adoption. Good luck

Adoption is expensive, hands down. So is raising a child. I guess I don't quite see why you want to adopt if you can't afford to do it. This isn't a puppy or kitten you're talking about - it's a human being, and there are no K-marts in the world of adoption.

It is not expensive to adopt an older child. It is expensive to adopt a baby - ask your clergyman or woman. Call Social Services and ask them. Perhaps you could be Foster Parents.

Call social services, they'll be able to direct you.
There are grants, incentives, and options for those who want to adopt but cant afford international or conventional adoption.
typically the children are older, theyre domestic (from the states), and have health issues.
Its sad, but its true.
You will need a lawyer for yourself, this protects your butt from crooked agencies.

Become a foster parent, that gives you training and they can help you adopt, and you can get help with the fee. God bless.

My husband and I are doing a private adoption. It is much cheaper. You just have to find your own birth mother and hire an attorney. If you want information, please feel free to email me or instant message me!
