Here's what I do, and it has helped me jack up the mileage on my Neon to 30+ miles per gallon.
Make sure the tires are inflated properly.
Drive very gently. No hot-rod takeoffs from green lights.
Don't speed. And use your cruise control if you have it, because it is much more precise in maintaining speed than you are. If you don't have a cruise control, try to drive as close to a constant speed as you can.
Don't tailgate. It's dangerous, and you spend a lot of fuel speeding up and slowing down to avoid hitting the guy ahead, which uses a buttload of fuel.
Stay off the brakes. Every time you use them, you burn off a lot of the kinetic energy that you burned fuel to build up. This means giving yourself a large gap in front of your car. This way you can use the car's natural ability to slow down just by taking your foot off the gas. Brakes are the enemy of fuel economy. Use them only when necessary. As a side benefit, your brakes will last longer.
Make sure your air cleaner is changed regularly, at least once a year. If it's plugged up, your car can't breathe. It will work harder, and you will use more fuel.
Your car will always get better mileage if you can avoid stop-and-go traffic. I leave for work at 5:30 am instead of 6, because after 6 the traffic is way worse. If i leave at 5:30, it takes me 30 minutes to drive 24 miles. If I leave after 6, it takes me almst an hour.

on the line, attempt to no longer pass any swifter than sixty 5 MPH (~a hundred and five km/h). Wind resistance will become a important factor at those speeds, and each 8 km/h over a hundred and five can shrink performance by making use of greater advantageous than 3%, finding on the vehicle. Case and factor: my vehicle gets around 30 mpg (13 km/l) on an analogous time as driving at 75 MPH, and it gets fifty 5 mpg (23 km/l) on an analogous time as driving at sixty 5 MPH or under.

Passive driving works the best.
Speeding up at a light and jamming brakes at the next light is wasteful. Learn to time the lights so you can maintain your speed or only slow down a little.
Combine errands into one trip. You will travel less and a warm engine uses less fuel.
Commute with someone else in your or their car.
Good Luck!

1) Accelerate slower (gently accelerate).
2) Dont drive too fast (the energy needed to keep the car moving is not proportional to speed and more like exponential).

I assume you got auto transmission.
If u got manual/shift stick then always try to shift into a higher gear when ur not accelerating (dont do this if ur new to driving as you need to shift down to get the desired accelerations should you need it at the moment).

Accelerate smoothly. Do the speed limit. Keep your tires at the proper pressure and your air filter clean. Driving with your windows up improves fuel efficiency, driving with the a/c on degrades it.

just leave the car in the garage....hahha...just kidding. seriously, just keep the car tuned up, tired good, above 1/2 tank of gas. Drive smoothly. Cars are most effecient at approximately 55 MPH, so no excessive speeding.

My trick is to keep my tires slightly overinflated. I keep the back tires at 34p and the front at 36p. Also accelerate at a smooth speed instead of jamming down on the gas pedal!

Breaking a lot wastes more gas.
If something is close to you, then walk. It won't kill you. It'll help you.
