compare the raw materials eg glucose, oxygen to the fresh foods coming into the kitchen, then imagine them all being mixed together with different things in different quantities, add a pinch of salt (literally) NaCl is required in cells too then, all of this goes on in different parts of the kitchen eg nucleus, mitochondria, sough and smooth ER and then the nice well prepared precise dishes are prepared and ready to be served, in the case of cells these would be mainly proteins.

its not the best metaphor for a cell, whoever gave u that???

thats the best i could do to compare the 2

sorry just re read ur question:

Mitochondria would be the cooking range, they provide nearly all the energy in a cell

metabolites would be the ingredients

cell constituents and proteins would be the nice finished dishes

the nucleus would be the head chef in charge of the kitchen

the smooth endoplasmic reticulum would be the commy chef doing most of the basic preparing, the rough ER and ribosomes would be a team of chefs adding the finishing touches and finalising each dish

the golgi aparatus would be the waiters taking plates away from the kitchen to be served out

i can only imagine that the customers would be the organelles which then take the products and use them for their own physiological pathways

hows that sound??? :S

I am going to take a stab at this. There are pores in the cell membrane that are like the doors of the restaurant. The walls are like the lipid bi-layer, or plant cell wall. The kitchen is the mitochondrial powerhouse, the people coming in and out are all different types of chemical and proteins that come and go with in a cell. There is a manager's office that decides the running of the restaurant like DNA runs the cell from the nucleus.
Ok, that is all the ideas I can come up with right now

A cell is like a restaurant because they serve your food in both of them. The doors are the same, you go in the restaurant through the door to get your food, and they bring food through the door of your cell to feed you three squares a day.
