im 16 years old. I smoke cigs and i need to tell my parents that i smoke. They sort of said theyll never see my again if i did but i dont think its fair how in asian cultures.. guys can smoke but girls shouldnt. They said girls have to get pregnant and the baby will come out retarded but how the hell does it affect my baby that i dont even have yet? I have a feeling they know that i smoke but theres this guilty feeling that itll break up mai family. help me out wut shuld i do?

If you are old enough to make the decision to smoke then you have to deal with the consequences from your family. Right or wrong, they'll have something to say about it and you'll have to hear them and be adult enough to accept their criticisms and to defend your right to smoke.

I know where you're coming from, I smoked for years.

I think their main concern is that when you DO get pregnant someday, that you can't just stop smoking like flipping a switch, and it will cause complications with your pregnancy and the baby's health. Also your own health.

The longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit. You should tell them you've been smoking but want to stop. Then when you're 18, if you still want to, you can take it up again. But you shouldn't.

And you can still be a rebel. Tell them that you won't date a guy that smokes. Maybe they'll make it less permissible for the men to smoke.

It is so, so, so hard to quit smoking. Don't let something like a cheap drug own you. You're WAY above that.

First of all girl. What do you have in mind? You want to tell your parents that ou do smoke so that you can do it freely and without having to lie about it or do ou want their support in leaving the habit. It sounds like the former reason. Smoking is injurious to your health, health of your future children and people around you, irrespective of the fact that you are a girl or a boy, and I won't recommentd it too. That apart, if this is the way of life you want to choose, I think you should do it to one of your parents, whom you are closer to. For example, go find your mom one day when she is in a happy mood, hug her and sit near her and say, "Mom, I want to talk to you about something that I know you will hate but I still need to tell you about it." Then gently break the news to her, in a very serious tone. If she lashes out and starts scolding, squeeze her hand and say, "Mom, please. I will listen to everything but please let me tell whatever I want to at this moment." and then continue with the story. Do not try to argue. Perhaps, they will try to reason it and even take ou to the doctor, but then they will know and everything will be out in the front. Don't worry, the revelation may be shocking for the family, but things like these don't break up a family, even in an Asian culture.

Well, you are not alone. That are a lot of people that smoke and don't tell their parents. My advice should be this: don't tell them yet...maybe you can tell them when you grow a little bit...cuz they feel bad that thier kids smoke. And they will try over and over to say to you that smoke kills you.

If you can stop!! I have smoked since I was about your age and it is the hardest thing to stop. Believe me, they are just telling you that to get you to quit. But they are right to be concerned! Good Luck!

I think u should jus tell them the truth and tell them that it is REALLY REALLY not fair what so ever and if they abandon u then thats stupid as heak and parents shouldnt do that to them even though its your culture!!!
