get something as close to your natural skin color as possible. also get something light like the cover girl true blend. use a moisturizer as the base .. it helps keep your skin clear & keep everything fresh looking, olay has a regenerating serum which is amazingg. as with anything else dont use too much moisturizer .. if you get the oil of olay two pumps does the trick. then apply your layer of foundation but keep it light .. you dont wanna look like a birthday cake haha. then apply a light layer of translucent powder, clean & clear makes a pretty good one. many people mistake the foundation as a bronzer .. thats when you get the infamous line .. horrible. use a light bronzer like physicians formula moonlight. its subtle but gives your skin a nice glow. (make sure you blend everything not just on your face but a little bit onto your neck too .. this helps to prevent that uglyyy line) then try a light blush on your cheekbones & nose, covergirl has greatt blushes. then TAA-DAAA beautiful skin all ready for mascara & eyeshadow without looking like a drag-queen =) hope this was helpful .. im really good with make-up so let me know if you need anymore help

First try using a good primer such as Smashbox and apply a very small amount over your entire face. This will help your makeup go on smooth and to stay for an entire day. Use sparingly!
Next, define what type of skin you have. If you have oily skin, try an oil-free foundation. Powders and liquids work fine on this skin type but avoid heavy, creamy foundations unless you have dry skin.
Dab small amounts of foundation on your face primarily in the T-zone and use a foundation brush to blend, blend, blend it onto your skin. Work from the middle of the face towards the outside so that the color will be thinner towards the edges of your face and blend in with your skin. For a softer look, blend a little moisturizer in with your foundation and you'll get sheerer coverage. If you have some areas of your skin that are still no even in coloration, use a clean damp makeup sponge with a tiny amount of foundation to daub a little more color on to even out the skin tone. You also might try something like LauraMercier's tinted moisturizer. It has build-able coverage and great hydration. Using a brush, starting with small amounts and blending are your best bets for a smooth, blended finish. Good luck!

apply make up with a slightly wet sponge. The makeup will have a more natural look this way (thinner application). Then with a dry sponge, blend into the none made up areas.Make sure your make up foundation is the right shade before you apply it. To test the shade place a small amount along your jawline. Never apply foundation to check color on your hand because your hand is not the same exact color as your face

Definitely find the right colour for your skin, try several different shades to see which blends into your skin, it should look like it's disappeared.
Then when applying, dab dots all over the face e.g. forehead, both cheeks, chin, and nose are how I usually do it. Then slowly smooth it in with downward strokes (so as not to raise the hairs).
Or, if foundation feels too heavy, you could also try a tinted moisturizer, still in the right shade, or blend your moisturizer with your foundation to dilute it.

As chicken farmer said; the right color will do wonders, especially when blended correctly. Use small amounts and blend thoroughly.
I personally use Physician's Formula Talc-Free, Loose Powder Mineral Wear. It works very nicely; it has just the slightest hint of color, and blends beautifully.
Hope I helped!

Buy the right color, apply lightly and use sponges to apply/blend. Ideally foundation should even out your skin color/tone and not be noticeably different from your natural skin tone.
