It depends how you formatted it.
It might have been a FAT or FAT32 drive and you formatted it to NTFS.
Or it might have been NTFS and you formatted it to FAT or FAT32.
Right click the drive amd it should say how it was formatted.
FAT & NTFS report drive sizes in different ways.

Either that or the player you bought didn't really have 2gb, the seller used a RAM doubler on it so it incorrectly reported drive space.

A problem like this usually occurs when you insert your MP3 and the message box pops up saying 'you need to format this disc', actually you don't. In future remove the MP3 from the USB if the format disc window pops up and reinsert it. You will find that usually it just goes straight to normal menu.
