Honestly, I think we do. We were all with my dad when he died, and he actually asked us to leave him and let him be in the room by himself for a while. (We knew the end was close.) It turned out that even though we did end up in the room with him when he passed away, he was not aware of us. But, I would like to think that we were of some comfort to him in the hours/days before the end.

We do all die alone. My favorite saying is "Let me live my own life, for I will die my own death." I believe Thoreau said that.
