Put some sand and gravel in a cup(even how many sand and gravel you have). Get a magnet and let the sand go to the magnet. That is simple ways.

it is done by a series of sluices that have different size openings to separate sand from gravel,that is why gravel is sold by size #3#2 and so on,bank run is sand and gravel and stone mixed and not broke into sizes.

If done in small amounts you can seperate them using a screen such as hardware cloth. Depending on the mesh size you can grade the finished product to the size that you desire
