Half of those countries are now secular enemies , so I wouldn't worry to much about a reforming of the soviet union . But Russia will never be a close friend of the US , they don't trust us and maybe they shouldn't

Russia held the Soviet Union together through force and coercion. Many of the former members nations of the Soviet Union are cultural, ethnic, and religions enemies of Russia. To bring them back under the soviet umbrella would be a bloodbath of epic proportions. Some others have joined the European Union and any such reunification attempt would bring in the European nations to the fight.
In addition you might consider China, there is no way they will allow this to occur. You might also consider that some of these countries are primarily Islamic and the Islamic nations around the world would join in this fight. Any such attempt would put nuclear nations against each other, it will never happen.

Highly unlikely. Having had personal contact with a large number of Russian nationals, living in both the U. S. and Russia, all agree that after the initial shock of loosing their cradle to grave Communist utopia, the freedom to work as one chooses, and live as one chooses (even in poverty) is a far better lifestyle.
If the U.S. (federal government) were to fold like the USSR did, and the states find, after a time, they could survive quite well on their own, would the various state populations vote to reinstate the federal stupidity we have suffered for the last 50 years? What happens to national defense here? What happened in Russia? An interesting mental exercise for free thinkers.

I believe you really have more insight to the possibility of Russia forming another Soviet Union. Putin has been very discrete forming the next Soviet Union, example, no freedom of the press and the covert killings of the outspoken critics of his administration. Now Putin is selling missiles to Iraq, missiles to be used as delivery devices for the nuclear weapons Iran is building.

That would be much unlikely to happen. But what will happen though is that Russia may join some sort of informal alliance with other nations. Just last year, Russia signed an agreement with China to form a joint military exercise that would showcase the militaries of both nations. Russia also signed an agreement with India for the joint development of fifth-generation fighter aircrafts.

Yes, it's likely. Small countries are going to find it harder and harder to compete on their own on the world stage. The whole world seems to be going that way ... eg the European Union, the African Union, the South American Community of Nations. A central Asian union will happen for economic reasons alone.

I don't think Putin needs the other countries to be a threat. He's doing just fine without them.

What they are planning seems clear to me.
But I'm just a moron Christian.
I don't see a formal union, but I see lots of behind the scenes alliances.
