What are some good materials for creating texture?

Question

So I have a fairly large canvas.. I plan to just make an abstract piece but I need ideas on what types of things are fun to play around with and create textures (ie. paint, material, gauze, charcoal...) ??

gesso and a comb, venetian plaster, thread, imprints of just about anything (shoe treads, leaves etc.)

try corned beef,corn flakes, rice crispies, pasta, cabbage is pretty good grass turns brown too quickly unless coated with pva.
