I think they sometimes need a strong word/words to get there mind off bad things like if u hit yourself with a hammer on the thumb you swear because u cant cry and seem uncool

usually swearing is subconsious, you are aware you are cursing but you dont think too much about it. Swearing is often a learneed habit from parents, peers, tv, ext... so i think people swear because they have learned it as a new way of expressing their emotions

Because it lets off steam. If you accidentally get whacked in the nuts with a pole or something, swearing vehemently makes you feel better. Also, it's fun!
