Knowing teenage boys, even he himself probably doesn't know what he wants. A Visa gift card would be the best way to go in my opinion. If you want something more personalized though, try going with a video game of some sort, if he's into games. Or, if he's into music, an iPod or iTunes gift cards go a long way. :)

i found a Creative brand [ipod nano-like thing] mp3 player at circuit city for $80.
or some CD's.... teenagers love their music
games for whatever game-player he already has
t-shirts or hoodies are quite 'hip'
most teens have pre-paid cell phones, you could find out what kind he has and get him some minutes
theaters sell 'movie bucks', dinner gift certificates and movie bucks for 2 would be a good gift, so he could take a friend with him.
*** i have a 15 year old neice, and for Christmas I am upgrading her computer... it is costing just over $100... i think the exact, with tax, is $137.

If he is really into video games and doesn't already play World of Warcraft, I would recommend that along with a few months of prepaid on-line time. My 53 year old husband, 23 and 17 year old son's are die hard WOW fans.
