Corruption in Mexico?

Question

Can you briefly sum it up for me? I'm in East Europe and don't know much about it. And sorry if I offend anyone.

La corrupción se da en todos los niveles, desde el alto funcionario hasta el policía en la calle.

Aunque, el comentario de Charlie es incorrecto, la gente de la política mexicana actual no desciende de los latifundistas españoles, es descendiente de la clase política resultado de la Robalución (Revolución), aunque hay excepciones.

No puedo negarlo, la política es turbia, y si, hay mucha corrupción. Sin embargo, yo estoy en contra de ella y estoy de acuerdo con el caballero aqui arriba: La corrupción está en todos lados, solo que los medios masivos de Estados Unidos hace énfasis en eso y demás cosas malas de mi país, y minimiza las buenas, por ejemplo, sabías que México tiene uno de los mejores sistemas de crédito para vivienda (INFONAVIT) de todo el mundo ¿no verdad?.

También estoy en desacuerdo con la gente que se va ilegalmente a Estados Unidos, así como estoy en contra de los ilegales centroamericanos en México.

El punto de todo esto es, para entender el sistema mexicano, tienes que vivir en México, rodeado de mexicanos. Claro, todo depende, si vives con la clase alta, todo es maravilloso y en México no hay pobreza. Si vives con clase media (como yo), verás que enfrentamos algunos problemas, sin embargo, México es un buen país para vivir. Si vives con un pobre, México es solo problemas, corrupción y dificultades.

PD Creo que la administración Fox ha sido la mejor en decadas.

I can't deny it, politics are dirty, and there is a lot of corruption. However, I don't agree with it and do agree with the gentleman (Charlie) above: Corruption is everywhere, but USA's mass media just shows that part of our country, and avoids mentioning the good things. In example, did you know that Mexico has one of the best house mortgage credit system in the world? I bet you didn't.

Nor do agree in the illegals in USA from my country that expect to have all benefits like Social Security and that kind of stuff, like I don't agree with Central American illegals that live in Mexico.

The bottom line here is, in order you can understand the Mexican way of living, you need to live in Mexico. Of course, it all depends with which social class you live. If you live with the higher class, Mexico is wonderful, there is no poverty and it is all about glamour, Cancun and party hard. If you live with the middle class, you will face some issues, but nothing too serious, Mexico is still a good country to live in. But if you live with the lower classes (unfortunately, the majority in Mexico), all is trouble, corruption and difficulties.

PS. I think Fox's administration has been the better in decades.

The corruption you may have heard about is probably due to it being a third world country with lots of poverty. And the corruption starts at the government. The Police , who are supposed to be there for the people, may not be much help, unless you are willing to slide the officer some money or something. It's unfortunante that a country with so many riches is run so poorly. The president and his group are elected (some doubts of the elections even being legitimet) for six years. Its no wonder that the US has so many problems with illegal immigrants crossing the boarder looking for a better life. They come to the US will non valid papers, and work jobs the US citizens dont want to do. I married a Mexican woman and have to visit Mexico periodically. If you visit Mexico I am sure you will enjoy it .. However you have to watch yourself carefully. Driving is a real nightmare. You negotiate about everything. Even getting into a taxi. I shouldnt be answering this question because I simple dont like the system down there. Others may share with you much better experiences.

Well, I am an American living in Mexico. Don't know how well I can explain this, but my Mexican friends say most politicians are descendents of the rich , land-owning Spanish settlers. These people controlled 90% of the land and money for centuries and their descendents are the ones who have money for higher education and to pay to be in a poliical campaigns. So not many of the "common" people run for office. Many people in high office give and receive bribes. There is an unbelievable amount of embezzeling from state and federal treasuries. Even low level officials expect bribes and will slow down paper work forever without them. The previous governor of the state where I live embezzeled millions of pesos.

Charges were brought against him. But the judge handling the case was either his friend, or was bribed (highly likely) and made a "mistake"...he did not bring the case to court until one day after the legal time limit. Therefore, the charges had to be drpped and nothing was done. Mexico has plenty of money and could be a very successful nation, but has to find an answer to this problem. Wish I had that answer, the great majority of people here are wonderful, hard-working folks.
I just read the response that says, "that is their mentality." Has this person ever lived in Mexico. known ordinary Mexican people? Corruption happens in the U.S. too...like the Congressman from Louisiana who was found to have $90,000 in his home freezer a couple of months ago. Making generalities about other people just promotes furthur ignorance. Like saying all Muslims are terrorists, or all Christians are fanatics, or that African Americans are stupid...NONE of those things are true... and All Mexicans are not corrupt either. Please have the patience to learn more about the people and the problem. And, by the way...most Mexicans strongly disagree with those who enter the U.S. illeaglly

The President of Mexico has been in office for only 6 years ,and he is already out the door. The corruption si very real, no matter from what point of view they tell you. When Mexicans go back into Mexico, the border patrol takes inventory of everything they have, and if something is to their liking they will keep it, regardless what that individual says. If he wants it back he must pay, so much of the Mexicans will opt to let them have it. The police ( Judicial federal) they are real butt holes, even if you don't commit an infraction they will want to pull you over just to get some money from you. Vicente Fox was fighting this problem but unfortunately his office term only lasted for 6 years.

And Mexico is a very beautiful country, and people love to go there. take a chance and go , have some fun and good luck.

Yes, Vincente Fox is a jerk, the gov't is corrupt, thats one reason they are all running north into the USA. Unfortunately the US Gov't kisses his a** in return. Our system isn't much better.
