While you are locked up you are allowed to go to the library at either the county or the prison you are in. You drop what is called an I-60 in texas and then they send you a form back telling you what time you will be allowed to go. There you can use whatever books you need. There are also what are called jail house lawyers that have either been in along time or could even been lawyers on the outside that help them with their filings After reading the above answer I had to edit what i said. Apparently you have not seen the news lately where innocent people have been released after spending so many years behind bars for something they did not do. You need to get educated before speaking on something you know nothing about

Varies state to state but all accused and convicted inmates have the right to access appropriate legal resources to help defend themselves, how much access is determined by the place they are incarcerated in and the prevailing state laws, although this is also true in the federal system

the idiot answer above shows what a lack of respect for the constitution exists these days
