the system we've got was created..it can be destroyed and replaced if enough people want it.
i think vast numbers of people are fed up with money being the bottom line when every decision is being made.
it seems if when what is right clashes with what is profitable..what is profitable wins out.
i wonder if any inovative economists out there are studying the links between the law the government and the media that allow this disintegration of moral character to deepen, and if so what proposals they have to change the situation..root and branch.
i think that if the economic system itself is corrupt and inevitably leads to social injustice, with all the resources continually gravitating to the top of some social pyramid, then a new economics needs to be formulated on a recirculatory principle..where instead of some pyramid being able to develop, money is constantly being plowed back/recirculated, facilitating things that are to the benefit of the whole community and the wider country.

study this chilean economist. he has the ticket.

according to the Chilean economist, Manfred Max-Neef, we only have about nine needs. Needs are very important to Max-Neef, because his whole, economic system is based on human needs. How do we measure them, so we really gauge our economy, its success, on the meeting of human needs - and not the tragic way we have been measuring it?

The first one he calls, "sustenance:" food, shelter, and water - the basic, physical needs. Next, "safety:" protection. Next, "love." Next, "understanding." Next, "community." Next, "recreation:" play, rest; he lumps those as one. Then, one of the most important needs of all, "autonomy." Look in the newspaper on any, given day and see how many wars are going on over that need. Human beings have a strong need to be in charge of their own lives, to not have somebody claiming to know what they have to do or should do. Anybody who says that to them, it threatens his or her autonomy. You see all the wars going on between nations. Listen in on any family with children. You will hear autonomy wars. "It's time to go wash up for bed." "No, I don't wanna." "Did you hear me?" "No!" See? An autonomy war. Another need, "creativity." Then, according to Victor Frankl, probably the most important need of all, a need for "meaning:" purpose in life. How sad, how few people on the planet are getting that need met. They are educated to misrepresent needs, according to Michael Lerner. We have been educated to misrepresent our needs. We have been educated to think we have a need to consume, a need for money, a need for status - not realizing those are not needs.

Great question, and well asked. As I see it, the revolution will be an internal one. As our social and cultural structures continue to break down, the power elite will take more drastic measures to prop them up. This includes promulgating lies in the public media as one of many control techniques. At some point, people will ask, if everyone is lying, who can I trust? The very last place to look for things like truth, honor, trust, etc, will be within one's own self. In the end, all you can trust for sure is the content (the song) of your own heart. At that point, people will be free to think for themselves. Anyone who thinks for him- or herself can come to the conclusion that there is a difference between wealth and well-being, and that well-being cannot be achieved alone. They can see for themselves that personal happiness is the best measure of a life well lived. And where does happiness come from? Well, that's for each of us to figure out, but I think our conclusions will end up being very similar. My hope of hopes is that we can all discover within ourselves what it means to be human in the finest sense, and give that truth a full and fit expression in our lives.
