It does not matter which way the two hot wires are hooked up on the screws. The heating element heats up because of the current flowing thru it. It makes no difference which wire goes where, the current still flows, because both wires carry 110 volts, creating 220 volts between them.

It does not make a difference which wire goes onto which terminal because you are dealing with alternating current. Even if you were doing this on a direct current system a heating element is a heating element and it makes no difference which way the current flows through the element.

i am not an electrician but I would say it would, or could burn your new element out once more. Just like a car if you hook up the wires backwards and start the engine, remove the alternator and take it back as it has reversed its polarity. In other words get you another one and take it to ACE and they will enstall it free.
In answer to you question, just place the wires on right. Color to color...

not on the element. They both should be live hot wires.
