I personally love Christmas, because that's a time of happiness, and time with family. But I hate how we all are in the Christmasy moode right after Thanksgiving, and do all this shopping, decorations, parties, etc. But then Christmas day, it's like, oh, it's here, already. It's just 24 hours. Then when it's over, well, it's over.

Christmas is a time of celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. We make it about shopping, parties, gifts and momentary happiness. In truth, the happy feeling we have during the Christmas season, should be with us all the time, all year long. We tend to forget that without Jesus Christ, there would be no "season".

I agree that there seems to be an aweful lot of preparation for just one day. I am not, however, in a christmas-ey mood until about six days before christmas. I don't really feel all that spirited until I have all of my shopping done. I try to keep the mood going until well after christmas. We keep the tree and decorations up for at least a few days, and continue to praise God thoughout the year. I think Christmas is more than just a day, but a celebration of Jesus' birth. A lot of people forget that it took quite a while after His birth for the wise men to arrive and that when people have a child, they continue to celebrate the birth for a while. I like to treat christmas as if the child were being born today (or on christmas day. A very special child.

(Although I don't believe that Christmas is neccessarily the actual day Christ was born. I just celebrate it on that day.)

I suppose that's why many people get depressed after Christmas. But one should look at Christmas as a season, from now through New Years, and not just one day.
