New cars engines are already broken in. Its a good idea to drive them easy for the first 500 miles just to be safe. Bring it back to the dealership.

Aftermarket or home-built engines are another story. If a machine shop built it, bring it back to them. If you built it, we'd have to know everything about the engine to help you. What engine? What parts? What was spring pressures, installed heights, rocker ratio, type of cam and lifters, what lubricants were used, was the break-in done correctly, etc.

There are only about 200 things that can kill a set of lifters. Try being more specific.

Generally speaking, if the engine is not broken in correctly, the lifters cannot get "pumped up" and will wear prematurely. Some engine builders will pre-pump the lifters prior to installing them to prevent this problem. This is another reason why manufacturers warn against driving faster than 45mph the first 100 miles.

cams are the trickiest things to break in, often the lobes will wipe out too, not enough assembly lube and cam manufacturers break in instructions must be followed religiously

other fella probably wrong, you got a clogged oil port somewhere, or just defective lifters.
